A B-52 south runway approaching the runway. Plane exploded on impact. Everyone expected to see the tail at the crash site. Nothing was left of the plane, only a crater from the impact & explosion. In the plane was Maj Milo Claude Johnson.

A fire in the housing area, (On Wyoming Cir.) caused injuries to two firefighters.

The center section of an H-shaped barracks building caught fire early one very cold (-45 degrees with a wind chill of -72) winter morning. The Four Seasons Store, Pizza parlor, and a squadron office were totally destroyed. Almost 2 dozen firefighters were injured with a variety of injuries including smoke inhalation, frostbite, hypothermia, and one Tsgt Ass't chief with a collapsed lung.

A fire in a missile storage shed/hangar on East base was fought, again in sub-zero temperatures.

About 2030 hours we had a report of alarms going off in a dormitory.  3 story cinder block construction.  Balloon frame. Smoke was coming out of the building when we arrived. Mutual aid from Limestone provided high pressure fog lines to jam into void spaces.  A great team effort and a great stop.

The last 'Loring Limelite' was made

The  last crew worked for the Loring AFB Fire Dept. 12 mid-night the Fire Department was turned over to 'Paul L. Barnes Inc.'

The Loring Development took over the Fire Department and created the first municipal fire department on Loring.

The name 'Loring Fire Department' ends. The closing of the Loring Fire Department by the Loring Development Authority of Maine
